Recently, in addition to "traditional" Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) looking at patient care from organisational and professional point, the importance of Personal Health Records (PHR) is raising to support the continuity of care. The role of the individual managing his or her own health related data is increasing and commercial products have been introduced to market.

The personal health record (PHR) is an electronic, universally available, lifelong resource of health information needed by individuals to make health decisions. Individuals own and manage the information in the PHR, which comes from healthcare providers and the individual. The PHR is maintained in a secure and private environment, with the individual determining rights of access. The PHR is separate from and does not replace the legal record of any provider. (AHIMA)

The project is part of the Finnwell technology programme financed by the National Technology Agency (Tekes). The project activity will be carried out in the time frame 1.11.2008 - 31.12.2009.
